That’s the real problem: the moment a marriage breaks, people assume the man will pay. Not because every woman is wrong, but because our laws and our social mindset are built in a way where the man is seen as the automatic financial provider — even if both partners were earning.

Originally, Indian laws like maintenance and alimony were made to protect women who were financially dependent and suddenly left with nothing. That was necessary. But over time, a new narrative started spreading — the one people call “fake feminism” — where any demand in the name of “women’s rights” is seen as valid, even if the situation is actually mutual, modern, or financially equal.

Modern relationships need modern laws. India still runs on a mix of old social thinking and new lifestyle — and that’s why these conflicts keep happening.
