READ ME IF YOU WANT TO KNOW COST & MORE INFO: All Korean apartments are different and range in different prices depending where you live.
Rent? I pay $600 (not including utilities) for this loft apartment and I love living in this city. I know it's pricey for one person but I feel like it's actually pretty cheap if you're a small family or a couple or have roommates living with you. Also, I'm glad to know how much money from my income is being taken out for bills so I don't mind paying for my own apartment.
Deposit money? The key money (5,000,000 WON = 5,000 USD-ish) was provided by my hagwon. Also, most teaching companies will provide you a place (or options to choose from) that you have to pay rent/utilities on your own but they sponsor your deposit money that is taken back to the company once you move out. The company reuse that deposit money for the new teachers.
Can I find my own apartment in Korea? IF you're planning to come here as a English teacher, it entirely depends on your company and what they are willing to provide. If you want to go out of your way to find your own place in South Korea, you will lose a lot of money for the deposit, agent fee, & there's always a possibility of being scammed unless you're fluent in Korean or the country you're trying to live in.
How much money should I bring before coming to Korea? At least 2,000 USD for the first month/agent fee/food/entertainment/home shopping,. Most teaching companies will not pay you until you've done a full month of teaching. This may not apply if your teaching job pays you biweekly, I'm paid monthly.
