Overhyped Makeup: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure is a blush I’ve heard about for years as a ‘goes with anything’ shade.

I ordered mine on Ulta and was surprised by how pink it was in the pan and on my face, certainly not the ‘skin-like’ shade everyone’s been talking about. I think each ambient lighting blush has a different amount of blush vs highlighter in it, but even the blush shade looks totally different than it does in the pictures online. I wanted it to be a skin-like tan shade with a little plum so it wouldn’t pull too warm, but on my face it’s a pretty basic peach. Pretty but not something I need in my collection.

The formula also doesn’t blow my mind. It’s a bit powdery and makes my skin look a little dry. I’m not surprised by that because I had the same experience with At Night, which is a blush I used to love for the shade but I have since found better alternatives to.

Overall, I think this is an overhyped product and you can get better bang for your buck elsewhere, though I do like that some of the shades come in minis.
