Hungarian goulash is the ultimate comfort food. You can easily get it prepped in just 15 mins, then let your stove or slow cooker take over.
Like all good soups and stews this recipe uses simple ingredients simmered to perfection for rich and delicious flavour. You can source everything (or the closest substitutes) at your local supermarket.
Why not cook up a big batch to keep some in the freezer for cold winter nights or when you just don’t feel like cooking!
🥒 Ingredients:
1 kg beef cut into cubes
1 hungarian sausage optional, sliced
700 g potatoes diced
2 onion chopped
2 carrots sliced
1 parsnip sliced
½ celeriac chopped into 1 cm cubes
1 clove garlic chopped
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tbsp sweet paprika optional heaped tbsp
½ tsp black pepper
½ tsp chilli powder
1 ½ cups beef stock
9 cups hot water
Fr the optional galuska noodles:
▢½ cup plain flour / all purpose flour
1 egg
1 tbsp water
Salt and pepper to taste – optional

00:00 - How to Make Traditional Hungarian Goulash
00:04 - Boil the beef for two hours
00:12 - Cook the onions and garlic
00:24 - Add to beef along with vegetables
00:33 - Add Hungarian sausage, spices, stock and water
00:47 - Boil then simmer for one more hour
00:52 - Make the galuska noodle dough
01:00 - Flick dough into goulash
