What’s the world look like through the eyes of a dog?

Using what we’ve learned about our Retinas, scientists have been able to examine the cells in the retina of dogs.

While loaded with Rods, the cells responsible for vision at low light levels, dogs only have about a tenth of the cone cells as us. Cones are responsible for distinguishing colors and provide high spacial acuity.

Scientists can best describe a dog’s color perception as close to a human with Red-Green colorblindness, although this is not a perfect comparison. Dogs also have significantly different visual acuity and a smaller field of binocular vision (where the images from the two eyes overlap)
