In my hometown Ordos when I was in my childhood, so often the elders told me the Lamaist stories, and so often I played with young friends in those shabby temples nearby. The old temples together with the religious stories, depositing for decades and getting more and more mysterious in my mind, have built up my healthy interest in the Lamaism and later driven me to Tibet for a special visit.
Besides the charm of the sacred music itself, I am most interested in the religious spirit and a certain association between religion and the native nature. In my eyes, the heavens, the clouds, the rays of light and the serenity of night sky have all added to the intensive colors of the religion in both Inner Mongolia and Tibet. Though not a Lamaist, I can imagine that resounding from the hearts of those Lamaists who hike on the road is a hymn, through which the Lamaists communicate with their own souls.
"Pilgerfahrt im Mai" is a chorale of saints. In the piece, most paragraphs consist of single-microtones, and the major singletones — D, E, G, F, and D — are backbone sounds that feature in the Mongolian long song.
