If you find your lift pump making the same weird noise mine did, please follow this tip:
I unhooked both battery grounds. Then I touched the passenger battery ground wire to the battery long enough for the pump to wake up and then removed again. I did this twice. After the second time, the pump sounded normal again. There was also the sound of what appeared to be pressure equalizing/releasing somewhere.
