In this video we’ll map how our mind shapes what we feel and do — an idea called cognitive conceptualization. We’ll explain that it’s not the situation itself but the meanings we give it that create our emotions and actions. You’ll learn about beliefs: deep core beliefs (like ‘I’m not good enough’) that form from early experiences, and intermediate beliefs — the attitudes, rules, and assumptions (for example, ‘If I try something hard I’ll fail’ or ‘Failing is terrible’) that grow from those core beliefs. We’ll show how a situation triggers quick automatic thoughts, which then lead to feelings, behaviors, and body reactions, using simple examples like studying a hard text or not getting a reply from a friend. Finally, we’ll show how therapists use this map to find the roots of unhelpful thinking and help people replace those thoughts so they feel and act better.
