ESJE Series Panel – Revelations in the Writing Process

The Equity and Social Justice in Education series, previously published by W.W. Norton, is a publishing home for books that apply critical and transformative equity and social justice theories to the work of on-the-ground educators. Books in the series describe meaningful solutions to the racism, white supremacy, economic injustice, sexism, hetero-sexism, transphobia, ableism, neoliberalism, and other oppressive conditions that pervade schools and school districts.

What ideas did you develop in the process of writing your book(s) that surprised you or stood out to you?

Panelists discuss rethinking Individualized Education Programs in the context of neurodivergent students’ experiences (Gerald), identifying how white supremacy can affect institutions like schools (Chandler-Ward), and highlighting contributions from coauthors, including a flow chart for decision-making about lesson ideas (Rodríguez).
