Blakely Powell is the daughter of ATH Co-Owner Kenneth Powell. Mr. Powell started taking his Blakely last year when she was 4 during youth season while it was still warm to get her interested in deer hunting and the great outdoors. They played games in the stand, made mud pies, and did anything to keep her attention. Blakely's sister shot a Trophy 7-point with her dad Kenneth Powell last year so Blakely was really interested in going and getting a bigger deer than her.
When this hunting season started time never seemed to work out to allow Blakely to get in the woods. Mr. Powell had been watching the weather and knew some warmer days were ahead, which would be the perfect time to take her. So on Sunday 12/29/2024, he asked Blakely if she wanted to go hunting with him and her sister after church and she said absolutely. So, they went to church and afterward went by Mr. Powell's parent's house for lunch and to change into their hunting clothes. Mr. Powell had been watching an 8-point hitting the field in the afternoon regularly and with the rut in full swing and the bucks chasing, Blakley stood a good chance on harvesting her first deer and buck in the same sit. So on the walk into the stand Mr. Powell, Blakely, and Addie put seduction estrus on one foot and war party buck urine by Native Scents on the other, to lay the mock track leading through the field and making a mock scrape just on the edge of the field before entering the stand. They finally made it to that stand around 1:45 and got set up and quiet. The iPads and Playstation Portal were deployed and both Blakely and Adaleigh were occupied while Mr. Powell used his Vortex binoculars to check the field and treeline. At times during the sit Blakely would use the binoculars checking the field, looking at birds, trying to find certain animals just to pass the time. At 4:00 pm Blakley asked is almost time to go yet and her dad told her, "We are on the last hour, when it gets dark that means it'll be time to go." Blakely returned to her movie on the iPad while her dad returned to watching the Greenfield. Twenty-five minutes later, they spotted a deer enter the field from the left with its nose on the ground and quickly began to start feeding in the food plot. Mr. Powell used his Vortex binoculars and quickly identified that it was a shooter buck. He got Addie to get the cameras rolling to capture Blakley's hunt. He then got Blakley to stand up quietly and got the trophy buck in the scope of her 6.5 Creedmore and ready to make the 104-yard shot. He got Blakely's finger and the trigger steadied the gun as Blakely squeezed the trigger. BANG! The trophy buck fell in its tracks in the middle of the field. Mr. Powell was super excited with tears of joy because this buck is truly a giant for Blakely. Addie gave Blakely a high five and began congratulating her and telling her you got him, you got him.
Blakely quickly called her momma to tell her that she had just shot a deer bigger than Daddy.
I couldn't be happier for both of my daughters. As one of the owners of ATH, our motto is A Trophy is any hunt or harvest where memories are made with family and friends, the trophy is not in the size.

I have always raised both my girls to be humble and be a good sport. I told Addie that I was super proud of her in the way she handled her sister's hunt. Most people would have drawn up pouting cause it wasn't them that got the deer, but Addie never once batted an eye and gave multiple compliments to her sister.
