Before the 1987 season, the last time the Twins won a postseason game was Game Six of the 1965 World Series. After upsetting the Tigers in five games, they now face off against a Cardinals team who has made it to the World Series three out of the last six years.
Starting for the Cardinals is a rookie left-handed Joe MaGrane. The last time a rookie started Game 1 of the World Series was 1980 when Bob Walk got the start for the Phillies against the Royals. Starting for the Twins is their ace left-hander, Frank Viola.
