Welcome back!
First off, I wanted to talk for a few minutes about washing the fabrics I picked up last week from the quilt show and fabric sale. I usually choose to wash any new reds that come into my stash; they are worse than any other color when it comes to bleeding dye, so it is important to get that dye out before the fabric is in a quilt.
Then: this week it's all about Cathedral Windows. I'll show you how I start with a 6" square and fold it over to finish it; then fill in the blank spaces with squares of color. When making a Cathedral Windows quilt, I recommend starting with an entire bolt of muslin which is not of a very high thread count. Using high quality fabric and then trying to stitch through layers and layers by hand is extremely difficult, so start with muslin of a looser weave. And, yes, it takes a whole bolt to make a quilt!
I'll also show you three Cathedral Windows I made in the past, as well as three made by my daughter.
Finally, I have a finished quilt this week: my Trip Around the World. It turned out pretty well! It has polyester batting, and is hand quilted.
Thanks for watching!
