Almaty is Kazakhstan’s biggest city… but is it worth visiting?
This is my first full day exploring Almaty, and I’ll be honest — it’s a mix of Soviet memorials, leafy parks, and a few surprises along the way. From Astana Square and the Kazakh-British Technical University, to the Glory Memorial, the Eternal Flame, and even a wedding party crash, it’s definitely not your typical tourist city.
I also check out the Arasan Baths, the quirky Museum of Musical Instruments, and discover a brand-new memorial called the Alley of Veterans, where each tree is dedicated to a WWII veteran.
