I've danced around the idea of doing a video on this game for a while, but circumstances at the time have finally lead to the idea being a reality now.

So what is this oddball of a "game" if you've never heard of it before? It's an anniversary title celebrating the Kirby series being 20 years old at the time of release on the Wii back in 2012. It has three things on offer. Those being roms of the first six mainline games, a museum to learn about some fun facts either Kirby related or real-life events that happened in each year, and the main subject of this video of challenge stages using the Return to Dream Land engine. These stages are not present in that main game at all.

Challenge stages tasks the player to make it the goal as fast as they can using certain abilities while also collecting coins and defeating enemies along the way. They are usually designed and arranged to try to make the most out of all the moves in each of the ability's movesets. Of course there's a ranking system based on how many points you earn going from the lowly bronze medal to the platinum medal where you have to not only play flawlessly, but also collect every coin, defeat every enemy, and do it all fast enough.

This was all the case for the challenge stages present in Return to Dream Land as well, but Dream Collection also has race challenges against Magolor and enemy gauntlets that use the same ranking system as well.

While I've known about these stages for a long time now, this was my first actual hands on experience with these stages. They were about as fun to go through and get platinums as the ones in Return to Dream Land. When that game got remastered to the Switch 1, I had hoped that the Dream Collection stages would be added as a nice addition, maybe as a free update, or even paid DLC. Alas, that didn't happen and these stages are stuck in the Wii era on a disc that not many people likely own.
