How to paint asparagus in oils: A step-by-step tutorial for beginners

In this video, I am taking you step-by-step through my process of creating a loose oil painting of some fresh asparagus. I hope this will inspire and help you, whether its the first time you pick up a brush or if you are a more seasoned artist.

The focus lies on not getting lost in details, but painting just enough to give the viewer the impression of looking at a floral cup.

🖼️The surface I’m painting on is a small MDF panel by the brand “Muspaneel”. They are very smooth, so I always add a layer of gesso on it with. This creates some extra “tooth” and a lovely texture! After that, I put a thin layer/wash of burnt sienna acrylic paint, just to get the white off. 👨‍🎨The paint I use is a special oil paint (Cobra, from Royal Talens) which you can thin by using water instead of spirits. Other than that, it's the same as regular oil paint.

🖌️ For brushes I use the cobra brand brushes, and for smaller sizes I use Mus brushes.
