1.4 An Introduction to how we Appraise a Project

Various approaches and techniques can be used to developing a project appraisal. A practitioner within the field of project appraisal will draw upon his or her combined knowledge of both engineering, project management and decision modelling and will pick the appropriate appraisal tool, be it a purely economics-based model or a multicriteria model. The choice of the right appraisal tool is critical and will depend on the information provided about the project and the information and recommendations which are sought. The choice requires judgment from the project appraiser about which he or she feels will be best suited to the problem or project under scrutiny. In this course we will teach you the most often used techniques in construction, however these are by no means the only techniques which can be utilized.
