A vertical retaining wall 6m high retains a horizontal backfill having the following properties:
Void ratio= 0.60
Specific gravity= 2.60
Water content= 24%
Angle of internal friction= 25°
Compute the magnitude of active force acting on the wall if:
a. the water table is on the ground surface which is on level with the top of the wall.
b. the water table is lowered at a depth of 3m from the ground surface.
c. the water table is at the bottom of the wall. Assume moist soil.
