Once every 4 or 5 years, camper owners may want to switch out their drain valve. It is an easy process we demonstrate in this video.
We’ll start by removing the two screws holding the valve in place. A square head screwdriver is used in this case. We also strongly recommend draining the fresh water tank before starting.
When removing the valve, it may need to be unstuck using a flathead screwdriver. Next, the old butyl tape is removed; you can do so with a flathead screwdriver or your fingers. The water tank hose clamp is then loosened with the flathead, and then we twist off the drain valve by clamping the hose with pliers.
After these steps are completed, we install the new piece. We’ll demonstrate how to hold the hose with pliers so it doesn’t go back into the hole. The steps to inserting the new drain valve are covered, including twisting it into the assembly, tightening the hose clamp, and adding new butyl tape. The last steps are placing the valve and trimming excess tape.
