The National Council for Senior Citizens’ (NCSC) Month National Church Service is the official worship service that launches the month-long observance of Senior Citizens’ Month. It serves as a time of thanksgiving, reflection, and prayer for the nation’s older population, while highlighting their contributions to national development.
The National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) was established in 1976 (originally as the National Council for the Aged) under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Its mandate is to promote the well-being, dignity, and active participation of older persons in Jamaican society.
Senior Citizens’ Month was introduced as a national observance to recognize the role of older persons in nation-building, advocate for their welfare, and sensitize the public to issues of ageing, health care, and elder rights.
The National Church Service became a central tradition of the observance, offering a unifying spiritual platform to bless the month’s activities and acknowledge the invaluable legacy of Jamaica’s elders.
