This unvarnished, feature-length documentary centered on the iconic British rock group, The Darkness, is slated for a special one-night-only cinema release on November 9th, with additional encore screenings. Digital downloads and Blu-ray editions will be available starting December 4th.



Rewinding to 2003, The Darkness became an international sensation with their chart-busting single 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' and their debut album Permission to Land, which garnered numerous awards and multi-platinum status. However, by 2006, at the zenith of their stardom, they suddenly disbanded and seemed to vanish from the musical landscape.


Fast-forward nine years, and acclaimed portrait and beauty photographer turned director, Simon Emmett (Underhill), picked up the trail of The Darkness as they embarked on a humorous yet challenging journey to regain their past glory. Starting from a humble pub performance aiming for sold-out arena shows, WELCOME TO THE DARKNESS provides a raw look into the tribulations faced by a 'cult band' in their uphill battle for a comeback.


Two decades since their multi-platinum debut, the band—comprising Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, the idiosyncratic bassist Frankie Poullain, and new drummer Rufus Taylor—recount their own version of The Darkness’ roller-coaster return to the spotlight.

The seminal album Permission To Land, originally released in 2003 via Atlantic Records, not only dominated the UK Albums chart for four straight weeks but also remained in the Top 100 for 53 weeks. It brought The Darkness three coveted BRIT Awards, and vanquished rivals including Blur, Radiohead, Sugababes, Muse, Primal Scream, among others. The album boasts over 3.5 million copies sold to date, including 1.8 million in the UK alone.
