The clinical meaning of pulse taking is to help differentiate syndromes. Pulse-taking can help reveal a disease's location, its heat and cold nature, and the conditions of vital Qi and pathogens via excess and deficiency natures. Further, observing pulse condition change can help predict the progress and prognosis of an illness.
A common method of combining pulse condition with complexion to predict the prognosis is also introduced
A complex case with different pulse conditions in the six portions of Cun, Guan, and Chi on both hands is discussed to show how to identify a syndrome by combining pulse conditions with other accompanying signs and symptoms.
