I sort of slapped this together rather quickly, I almost didn't want to release it since there wasn't a lot of work put into it. So then wasted a lot of time on menial things when the bulk of everything was already done. Really I just had a random thought: "can I just take the key art and slap it on a skybox with some appropriate blending mode? Will it just work or do I have to do a lot of manual cropping and stitching?". And yeah other than a bit of cleanup it worked pretty well. I'm just letting the key art do all the heavy lifting with a moving skybox and a couple of moving clouds layers in the background. Add a bunch of bells and whistles here and there and it's done. I also had a thought that I should put a silhouette of NIGHTS whirling around in the distance at a random interval, leaving its usual trail, but probably a lot of work for little return. I also had a spectrum visualizer going around the moon rim, but the music is already so soft it didn't really feel like it would call for it.
This is not even one of my favorite songs in the NiGHTS soundtrack (well there's a lot of good ones to choose anyway) but I do think it's the one that goes the best with the key artwork. It plays in the replay section after you finish a level, it's quite easy on the ears. I did want to use one of the songs synthetized by the Saturn soundchip, so I could do my usual audio layer separations, but alas I decided with this one, which is just pre-recorded. The ones that do use the saturn soundchip are usually the ones that play during the levels and they're kind of unique since each song essentially has 4 different versions that I think that change with the mood of the little Nightopians (think of like the little chaos dudes in Sonic Adventure, but in NiGHTS instead). It's a lot of work for a gameplay feature that's basically esoteric and hardly anyone noticed, those guys were just nuts. I honestly don't think I ever noticed the music changing while playing the game, I wasn't even aware you could do the little weird breeding and mix and match with the Nightopians way later when the internet arrived. Haven't even really tried it to its fullest extent to be frank, they just seem like weird little creatures that roam around in the background of a fast-paced time attack arcade-like game. Who would take the time to stop and play around with those little devils. But I guess Yuji Naka took the concept and kept applying in his later games, even to this day in Balan Wonderworld (BLUNDER OF THE CENTURY) he keeps pushing that concept.
