THE DEADLOOP - Banned Gymnastics Technique!

At the 1972 Summer olympics, a 17yr old Soviet gymnast named Olga Korbut stood up ontop of the high bar, did a backflip, and grabs the bar continuing into a swing. This technique would then be banned from competition.

This would become known as “The Korbut Flip”.
It is also been known as “The DeadLoop” and “The Deathloop”.

Other athletes began to include this into their routines and many variations and modifications too.

Elena Mukhina modified it to as a twist to it in 1977.

The “korbut flip” or the “Deadloop” marked a shift away from traditional, more balletic routines and set the stage for the dynamic and acrobatic routines seen in modern gymnastics.
