The Beatles went into EMI to record this song on February 19, 1965; their fifth day in a row for recording the tracks to their next film. Approximately three hours were spent working on You're Gonna Lose that Girl.
The group only needed two attempts to nail it. The first take being a false start and the second take was the keeper. The group were all on their usual instruments; Lennon on rhythm guitar (and apparently Harrison too? I don't hear it), McCartney on Bass and Starr on the kit.
Overdubs were added shortly after with Lennon double tracking his vocals, Harrison adding a guitar solo, McCartney playing piano, and Starr playing bongos. After this it was done!
THE GUITAR PARTS:
Lennon played his 1961 Fender Stratocaster. Not much is noteworthy in his part, however, pay attention to 1:46 where John seems to hit that E chord a bit harder than anywhere else in the song. Definitely stands out to me.
Harrison also played his '61 Strat on this one, although it was just for the solo. Notice how the middle and bridge pickups were used which would be position 4 on a Stratocaster. Something interesting to remember is that 5-way switches on Strats did not exist until 1977. HOWEVER, this did not stop players from finagling the switch either with toothpicks, matchsticks or with a good sense of getting the switch to stick in the "In-between" spot between the 1,3,5 position. The use of those "in-between positions ca be heard on Lennon's strat for If I Needed Someone, I Want to Tell You and Nowhere Man just to name a few.
Thats about it!
