Black Beard Algae is a common issue with planted tanks or aquascapes and its soul sucking when you see it appearing in your tank, Hopefully with a few changes you can take control of it.
Using liquid carbon or bleach will not solve the BBA issue, you need to make sure you have a balance in your tank, good water flow, balanced lighting, regular water changes and fert dosing plan.
Using liquid carbon and household bleach directly only wood and rocks etc.. will help with unsightly BBA but please take care to wash off any bleach before it is placed back into your tank.
You can also use household bleach on aquarium glassware, you do not need to physically remove algae on the glassware, just soak, rinse and place back in your tank.
Household bleach can be bought from any local store
The liquid carbon i use is EasyCarbo which i bought from http://www.aquariumplantfood.co.uk
