Cemetery Mapping. Upland South Cemetery Suitability. GIS and Cartography Final Project using ArcGIS.

Last August, I returned to school. My goal is to improve my cemetery investigation skills. This will be my second degree. I am studying Geography Information Systems and Geology. I have been involved in several extra-curricular mapping projects this year using High-Resolution GPS, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and Magnetometry. Additionally, many of my in-class projects have been centered within the ArcGIS programming environment where I have studied cemetery-related mapping concepts.

This video is an academic encapsulation of suitability and targeting study of Upland South Cemeteries within a 19 county region and a 5 county region of Upper Northeastern Tennessee.

The purpose of this project is to identify cemeteries within a 5 county region of Upper Northeastern Tennessee that might fit into the category of Upland South Cemeteries. This is a concept piece which strives to reduce the work of cemetery researchers. An initial cemetery dataset of 808 cemeteries is reduced to 103 cemeteries which have a higher percentage of categorical attributes identifying them as Upland South Cemeteries.

Through the use of GIS, I hope to increase cemetery researchers' effectiveness and efficiency.
