After being on sale for over 10 years, Royal Enfield has released a brand new version of their best selling bike, the Classic 350. While visually, this new Classic looks very similar to the outgoing model, it is built on RE’s J-platform that first debuted on the Meteor 350. This basically brings with it a brand new engine, a brand new frame along with new suspension as well. So it’s a very different bike underneath - one in which RE has addressed a lot of issues that plagued the earlier motorcycle.
On paper, there’s not much difference in spec though. The engine is still a 350cc single-cylinder air cooled mill, but this one uses cam-driven overhead valves as opposed to the pushrod setup from the earlier motor. Power and torque figures remain similar, but this motor has become significantly smoother at pretty much any speed. And the performance has improved drastically too. Even suspension sophistication has seen a bump up and the new bike is a lot more comfortable than ever before.
