Abstract: If you need to make a PDF report from R, you've got two choices: 1) work with a designer to do the layout, or 2) try to do the layout yourself with LaTeX. Working with a designer is time-intensive, inefficient, and not reproducible. Working with LaTeX is notoriously headache-inducing. Fortunately, there is another solution: the pagedown package. The pagedown package lets you use HTML and CSS to design PDF layouts. These two languages are much more common than LaTeX, much easier to learn than LaTeX, and much easier to customize than LaTeX. Over the last few years, the team at R for the Rest of Us has built many nice-looking PDF reports with pagedown. I'll talk about how we made these reports, and show how you can too can make beautiful PDF – no designer needed.
