A vast naturalistic and archaeological park covers most of the ancient Etruscan city Velch (now known by its Latin name, Vulci). Vulci lies about 100 km north-west of Rome (16 km from the Tirrenean Sea) on the coastal area of Lazio and Tuscany, Italy. Foreign tourists don't visit it and head for the few popular places, all overcrowded and overpriced, and few Italians visit Vulci. When there, we feel peaceful and alone with the unique nature of the the Maremma. Here and there - well apart and very well described also in English - are the archeological remains of a once great city, an important one in ancient Etruria, Things not mentioned in the movie: good little museum in 13-century castle, medieval bridge 30 m above River Fiora built on Etruscan and Roman foundations, Lake Pelicono with a little waterfall where we like to swim at the end of the walk and a couple of restaurants - one which we have used has tables in shade and pretty good local dishes, and is not expensive.
