Word families are lists of words that have many of the same letters. Practice these word families with three senses at once (sight, hearing, and touch, the writing). In fact, wear a headset while you listen and write these words down. The headset will keep noise out to help you keep your three senses tuned in at one time. This helps your mind speed up retention. Do not worry about making mistakes. It is just a practice! Tuning in three senses at once, is ideal not only as an intervention for struggling learners, but also for anyone needing help over hurdles/concepts that seem difficult to conquer at first. From General Education to Special Education, all students can benefit from engaging three senses at once.
