Join us for the end-of-season update from the dairy farmlet trial as we wrap up the second year of this multi-season research project. Our researchers at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) share the latest results on pasture performance, animal production, and system profitability, and what these findings mean for Tasmanian dairy farmers.
This trial is helping to answer key questions about optimising pasture-based dairy systems for productivity, sustainability, and profitability in a changing climate.
An ambitious target was set to help dairy farmers grow 20t of forage dry matter from irrigated pasture, and produce 2000kg of milk solids per hectare per year, with only 150 units of synthetic nitrogen fertiliser.
The trial is part of the Dairy HIGH2 partnership between Dairy Australia and the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture. Learn more: www.utas.edu.au/tia/research/research-projects/project/livestock-production/dairy-high-2
📍 Filmed at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture’s Dairy Research Facility at Elliott, in North-West Tasmania.
