Seated Guard vs. Standing Passer: here we’re looking at 3 different approaches when you’re in a seated guard position facing a standing partner who’s looking to pass the guard. This can be challenging, mainly because the passer has so much mobility from the standing position. Often before you’ve made any contact from the bottom, you’re overwhelmed with pressure, movement and directional changes. We always look for ways to gain control early on to make first contact, set the pace and then advance position. Here we look at three different scenarios: first, when we CAN gain inside position, then we CAN’T gain inside position, and lastly when there’s hand fighting going on and we are at a greater distance so there is NO inside position.
