How To Book More Acting Jobs

Hey guys, DPG here. And just before we get started, please do the usual social media stuff that I don't really pay too much attention to. But if you want to learn how to have a professional acting career, I'm definitely the person you want to listen to. But let's get started with the video. Today I want to talk to you about how to generate so many offers. You actually have to say no to those acting jobs. OK, it's really easy. Add value. Add more value than you ever think you will get back. Now you might ask, how do I add value, David? Well, the way to add value is to understand what you are good at. And it doesn't have to be specific. Like I can play tennis and I can fix a leak in a faucet. It can be something general, like I have a really great personality and people love to be around me and I don't get tired easily. I have a lot of energy. I'm just super positive. I have a quirky personality. I'm angry all the time. It doesn't really matter. It's just what is it that makes you unique? And then you need to figure out how you can tell people that you are the best at what you do. So you really need to ideally figure out what combination of things it is that you hold and how it's unique from other people. Now, you don't need to name other people, you just need to name the thing that you do and maybe even come up with your own name for it. Which is why I always tell people to create their own superhero persona, because a superhero has a name, right? There's Spider Man, Black Widow*, Superman, you know, the list goes on and on. And each one of them just has a name. And then somebody goes, well, what can that person do? And then they have their list of attributes, the things they can do, their superpowers. So you need to figure out what those are. And then you need to take responsibility for what it is you can do. And what does that mean, you ask? Well, David answered. The responsibility side of it, the accountability side of it is if you have these gifts, then it is up to you to share them with the world and make the world a better place. So that means you have to go out there and tell people what it is you have so that they can then reach you when they need those things. And that requires building trust, OK. Just like Spider Man has always had difficulty with people trusting him because he got a lot of, he got on the wrong side of a lot of people like J Jonah Jameson who bad mouthed him. And so Spider Man has had credibility and trust issues. And so he's always often battling the law or being chased by the law, but it doesn't matter. He still takes responsibility for his superpowers and he tries to save people and save the day and and he tries to do good no matter what other people think about him. And so that's exactly what you need to do. You need to figure out what your *superpowers are, come up with a name for yourself and start to really believe it. Imagine yourself going out there as whatever it is I'd be. I would probably be a super irreverent guy because I am irreverent. I don't take things too seriously no matter what, and I bring a special kind of energy to the situation that usually cracks people up, even if I've just met them, because I will say outrageous things at the most opportune or in opportune moments.
