Whitewater, hiking on the tundra, and extreme isolation on the Thlewiaza River in Nunavut, Canada on my birthday. It is tough traveling up here, but so worth it if you have the skills.
Incidentally there are three routes that connect Nueltin Lake. I had previously used the northern route, which had large but runnable rapids. This year however the the water levels in Nueltin Lake were EXTREMELY high (at least several feet over the seasonal average) and so I took the much bonier middle route. This route has a waterfall complex in the middle of it that requires portaging, so look out for that horizon line if you ever find yourself up here!
