Leonard Cohen - Joan of Arc (Cover)

This week’s cover song – the lovely ‘Joan of Arc’ by Leonard Cohen (RIP). This song was featured on one of his most renowned albums – ‘Songs of Love and Hate’, released in 1971. The song, unsurprisingly, is about the historical figure of Joan of Arc who was burned at the stake during the Hundred Years’ War. Cohen describes her death as a marriage between her and the fire that killed her (I know, that could not be more Leonard Cohen haha). Anyway, history lesson over, I adore the poetics of this song and I think it’s such a unique theme to sing about. I tried looking to see if there was another, more personal meaning behind the song but I couldn’t find anything. I hope I have done this lovely song justice. I am surprised that I have not covered more of Leonard Cohen as he is definitely one of my favourites.
