Meet Lee & Karmen Van Aalsburg | Investing in the Mission of the Church

“One thing we’ve learned at Abundant Life is that we cannot out give God.”

Lee and Karmen Van Aalsburg started attending Abundant Life before Pastor Phil was called to be the head pastor. Karmen says that over the years, Pastor Phil has led with integrity and has always been honest with the church.

When they were first married, Lee and Karmen decided to tithe regularly. It was a discipline and a muscle that had to be strengthened, but as the Lord started to grow that muscle, it became more of a desire. It shifted from a discipline they knew they needed to do to something they were excited to do because they knew it supported the mission of the church.

At the beginning of their marriage, they struggled to make ends meet, but they saw the Lord provide consistently when they gave faithfully. The discipline to give taught them that everything belongs to the Lord.

Lee says, “The church is the Lord’s body in our community and in our world, so it would be tough to argue that there is anything more important than the mission of the church.”

The two things that will last forever are the Word of God and the souls of men. The Word of God is important and life-changing, and by investing in the souls of men, we can bring more people to the Lord.

What if every AL member was all in taking their next step, what would that mean for our community and our city? If we look at the model of the early church, a small group of people changed their world. Following their model, with the size of our church and the resources that we have, thinking about what we could do with those is exciting.
