"Basanta" is the spring season in "Nepal Bhasa" and is the season of Joy and blossom. The folk tune, which is particularly played during the period between Basanta Panchami to Holi Purnima, is called Basanta Tune. This is one of the most popular folk tunes in Nepal. This tune is from Newar, the indigenous community of Nepal from Nepal Mandala, which also includes Kathmandu, the capital city of the country.
This song captures the vibrant spirit of the famous BISKA JATRA, celebrated in the Madhyapur Thimi municipality. Traditionally, the festival takes place in four historic towns—Thimi, Nagadesh, Bode, and Tigani. In recent years, the celebration has expanded to include additional chariot processions in Lohankeethali and Nikosero, also within the municipality. The Madhyapur Thimi Biska Jatra is primarily observed over three days: at the end of the month of Chaitra and on the first two days of Baishakh. The entire song portrays the various Jatras held during this festive three-day period.
