‘Common Threads’ explores the ties that bind India and Africa through the material medium of cloth. Today’s vibrant but lesser-known trade in beautiful printed fabrics bears witness to a long-standing engagement between India and the continent, and the cosmopolitanism of these Indian Ocean connections. More significantly, it showcases the importance of people-to-people linkages in forging partnerships against the backdrop of the emerging meta-narratives about historical and contemporary transoceanic linkages between India and Africa.
