SOLD We Test Drive a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertible

Classic Car Addict is proud to present this 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza convertible for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. The Corvair is a rear-engine, air-cooled compact car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet over two generations from 1960 to 1969. Following the success of the upmarket "Mr. and Mrs. Monza" styling concept cars at the 1960 Chicago Auto Show, management approved the neatly appointed bucket-seat Deluxe trim of the 900 series Monza as a two-door club coupe only.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl upholstery. Interior appointments include a locking glovebox, bright door sill plates, heater, door pockets, and a cigarette lighter. The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, analog clock, and gauge for fuel, gen/fan, temp/press. We do have the original radio for the Monza, but it was changed to an AM/FM radio. The five-digit odometer shows 96,149 miles (actual mileage is unknown).

The car was originally finished in Mist Blue Metallic (D2) and was repainted in yellow under prior ownership. Exterior details include a black convertible top, quad headlights and taillights, bright bumpers, and polished exhaust finisher. The 13” steel wheels feature wire wheel covers and are mounted with Falken ProTouring wheels, 175/70R13 all the way around. A full-size spare is located in the front trunk compartment. The Corvair utilized a fully independent suspension, and stopping power is provided by front and rear drum brakes.

The rear-mounted, air-cooled 164ci Turbo-Air Special flat-six features two single-barrel carburetors and was factory rated at 110 horsepower and 160 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a two-speed Powerglide automatic transaxle.
