I don't know if this is true for all bee keepers, but for me, the day I start doing rotations on my boxes in December, I'm already thinking about the honey harvest in June. Then, through the time of splitting our hives and watching the hives grow.....or not, I'm already predicting which hive is going to produce the most honey for me. Then, as the nectar flow begins and the bees start filling frames and capping them,I can't help myself but peek inside the box to see the progress....just to make sure they are doing it correctly. Well, my wait is over, and I am proud to say, the Abbee Bees did an outstanding job producing an abundant honey crop. With the honey boxes that Good Time Charlie and I brought in, last weeks video, link at the bottom of this description, we managed to harvest around 220 gallons of the liquid gold.
On this video we will run all our honey frames, over 600 of them through our machines, and show how we process our honey here at St. Joseph Abbey. Not only that, but I will also show our newest machine, the honey / wax separator, the second link at the bottom of this description, and run it through it's paces. This was the very first time this machine was used, and I have to say, it preformed fantastically for us. With the addition of this machine, I believe our honey house can now handle the 1000 frames that I hope to process one day. I guess this means I will be thinking about harvesting next years honey way before December.
I have to mention, without the help of so many great folks, a very difficult job was handled with ease and a lot of fun. So thank you Charlie, Patty, Randy, Mike, and Wreck it Ralph for putting in the time and effort to help me and the abbey. God's peace to all. Mr. Ed
