In this video I review the Transcend DrivePro 100 (DP100) and DrivePro 200 (DP200) which are 1080 30FPS dash cameras.
My thanks goes to Mickaela Noone @ Transcend for loaning the units used in this review.
Both cameras are of a similar size and both use the same power adapter (12/24v to 5v) and mount. Both include a G-sensor to automatically lock files when a high G is sensed, e.g. if you crash. This worked as expected on the DP100 but was easily triggered by small bumps in the road on the DP200.
Both cameras record at 1080P 30FPS and give a decent day time image, making it easy to read licence plates. But the image quality of the DrivePro 200 is significantly better than the DrivePro 100.
The DP100 has a 130 degree wide angle lens and the DP200 has a 160 degree wide angle lens. Both are so wide that you won't easily notice the difference.
Quality at night or in low light drops significantly which is the biggest issue with these cameras in my opinion. Low light performance can be difficult for such small cameras but I do have other dashcams that perform better. Although I've also tested many dash cameras that perform much worse!
The WIFI live streaming and playback on the DP200 is absolutely fantastic. It's extremely fast to load the live stream and file directories and playback and very smooth.
Overall I'd say these Transcend dash cams are some of the best on the market. They've obviously put a lot of effort into the user interface and hardware interface and it pays off.
If they could improve the night performance and perhaps make them a bit smaller or more discreet, they would be my solid recommendation over all over dashcams.
