Metaphor: ReFantazio[a] is an upcoming 2024 role-playing video game developed by Studio Zero and published by Atlus. It is the first original game from Studio Zero since its formation in 2016 by Persona series director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro. The game is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S on October 11, 2024, in commemoration of Atlus' 35th anniversary. The game takes place in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, a medieval fantasy realm mirroring the contemporary real world, after the assassination of its former King places a curse on the Prince, putting him in an eternal slumber. The protagonist, an orphaned boy of the magla-wielding Elda tribe and the Prince's childhood friend, is tasked with journeying across the kingdom to rally support from its people as he vies to take the throne in his place while also lifting the spell.

Metaphor: ReFantazio was first announced under the codename Project Re:Fantasy in December 2016, with no more information revealed until 2023. It incorporates multiple gameplay systems previously used in prior Atlus role-playing games, featuring a hybrid system that mixes the traditional Press Turn-based battle mechanics during initiated encounters and boss fights, with real-time action combat in the field. The game carries over several of the social simulation elements prominently used in the Persona series, including time-sensitive activities structured after a day-to-day calendar, and the "Follower" system, which involves the player forging bonds with the locals in each region around Euchronia in order to increase public favor towards the protagonist ahead of the election to decide the next King.

Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, which is set in a medieval fantasy realm that acts as a "mirror" to the modern real world. The assassination of its King sparks chaos and unrest throughout the kingdom, while also invoking a unique form of magic only previously known to the King, known as the Royal Magic. These events end up setting the stage for a tournament to be held across the world in order to decide the throne's successor. The main protagonist is a boy of the Elda tribe who has been ostracized by wider society for being "tainted" with the inheritance of forbidden magic and is often subject to discrimination and prejudice as a result. He is to embark on a quest to lift a curse placed on his childhood friend, the crown prince of Euchronia whom the kingdom believes was assassinated over ten years ago. Throughout the journey, he will be accompanied by a fairy companion named Gallica, whose immense knowledge and ability to sense magic aids him on the path ahead.

Other allies aid the protagonist and Gallica throughout the narrative. The main party comprises Strohl, a nobleman of the Clemar tribe who meets the protagonist at the State Army recruitment center, Hulkenberg, a knight of the Roussainte tribe formerly acting as part of the Royal Family's kingsguard and harboring considerable guilt for her inability to protect the Prince, and Heismay, a former knight of the bat-like Eugief tribe who is sensitive towards sound and endures similar discrimination from other tribes in the kingdom due to his physical appearance.
