Morning Mood (original title: Morgenstemning) was composed by Edvard Grieg in 1875 as part of the incidental music for Henrik Ibsen’s play Peer Gynt, Op. 23.
The piece appears at the beginning of Act IV and musically represents a sunrise in the Moroccan desert. Though originally written for orchestra, Morning Mood has become widely known in solo piano arrangements and is one of Grieg’s most recognizable melodies.
