The 1619 Impact Series was a webinar series celebrating the fifth anniversary of The 1619 Project, and our partnership with the New York Times Magazine. The series was designed to cultivate a transformative learning community for educators interested in or actively engaged in doing the work of racial justice education. It offered participants inspiration, strategy, and tools from experts dedicated to doing this important work.
In our Centering Joy Webinar, 1619 Education Network alumni— Johanna Josaphat, Charles Sanderson, Kim Tate, and Donja Thomas—shared the approaches, strategies, and techniques they utilized for centering joy in their work with The 1619 Project. In conversation with Karima Haynes, Pulitzer Center's Director of Reporting Fellows, the educators explored how to cultivate and maintain a positive classroom culture while engaging with hard histories, complex issues, and difficult questions.
