When Paul Sirod was arrested for passing bad checks in Los Angeles in 1925, the police may have thought it was a simple case of forgery.
They soon discovered, however, that there was more to the story.
Paul, aka Rae Sargent, was legally Edna Brittendall, who had fled their former life in Colorado with their two daughters, a female friend, and their friend's three sons, to live as a man in California.
