Punjab Bus Accident Today | Private Bus Overturns in Fields at Mehal Khurd, Barnala | 15 Injured

A major road accident was reported on Wednesday morning from Mehal Khurd village under Mehal Kalan Assembly constituency, Barnala district (Punjab), where a private bus overturned into fields due to dense fog and driver negligence. The accident left around 15 passengers injured, most of them nursing college and school students.

According to initial information, visibility on the road was extremely poor due to heavy fog. At the same time, a sand-loaded tipper was overtaking from the opposite direction, creating a dangerous situation on the narrow link road. While trying to avoid a collision and a roadside tree, the bus driver lost control and the bus overturned into nearby fields.

All injured passengers were immediately rushed to the Government Hospital, Mehal Kalan, where doctors confirmed that two critically injured passengers were referred to Barnala Civil Hospital, while others are undergoing treatment, X-rays, and medical observation.

Injured passengers alleged that the bus driver had already driven rashly earlier, and due to careless driving, the bus first narrowly missed hitting a tree before overturning. Some passengers also raised suspicion of possible negligence or impairment by the driver, though this will be confirmed only after the police investigation.

Doctors at Mehal Kalan Hospital stated that 14–15 injured passengers were brought in for treatment. Thankfully, there was no loss of life, but the bus suffered significant damage.

Police have started an investigation to determine whether the accident occurred due to fog, overtaking by the tipper, overspeeding, or driver negligence. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings.

This incident once again highlights the dangers of driving in dense fog and the need for strict enforcement of road safety rules in Punjab.
