Different Pressure Transmitter

Differential pressure transmitter calibration ensures the transmitter accurately measures pressure differences, which is critical for process control systems.

Steps to Calibrate a Differential Pressure Transmitter:

1. *Gather Equipment:*

Differential pressure transmitter
Calibration source (pressure calibrator, deadweight tester, or a precision pressure pump)
Digital multimeter (for 4-20 mA output measurement)
Handheld communicator or HART device (if applicable)
Pressure hoses and fittings
Calibration certificate form or software

2. *Isolate the Transmitter:*

Shut off process pressure and isolate the transmitter from the process line.
Connect the calibration pressure source to the transmitter’s pressure ports.

3. *Zero Check:*

Vent both high and low pressure sides to atmospheric pressure.
Check transmitter output; it should read the zero value (usually 4 mA).
Adjust zero if necessary using the transmitter’s zero adjustment.

4. *Apply Known Pressure:*

Apply a series of known differential pressures across the transmitter range (e.g., 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% of span).
At each point, record the transmitter output (usually 4–20 mA or digital value).

5. *Compare Output:*

Compare the transmitter output to expected output for applied pressure.
Calculate the error at each calibration point.

6. *Adjust Span and Zero:*

If errors exceed tolerance, adjust span and zero settings to minimize error.
Repeat the pressure application and measurement to verify adjustments.

7. *Hysteresis and Linearity Check:*

Test increasing and decreasing pressures to detect hysteresis.
Check linearity of output across the range.

8. *Document Calibration:*

Record all readings, adjustments, date, and technician details.
Issue a calibration certificate.

Typical Tolerances:

Zero and span adjustments within ±0.1% of full scale are common.
Calibration frequency depends on operating conditions but often every 6–12 months.
