!ONSIGHT SPOILER WARNING!
For many visitors to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the name Batu Caves conjures up images of the colourful steps leading up to the Hindu cave temple situated on the south side of the limestone formation in which the temple is located. Scattered all around the periphery of that limestone formation, however, are crags (rock climbing walls) where climbers pit their skills against some of the best limestone Kuala Lumpur has to offer.
Nyamuk is one such crag, and is arguably the crag at which the strongest climbers - both local and foreign - congregate, thanks to the concentration of hard routes there. The crag takes the name "Nyamuk" from the Malay word for the (oftentimes relentless) mosquitoes that visit itchy misery upon climbers.
Bada Bing (8b) is located in the Dengue Section of the crag, and works its way first up a short, featured wall, before being interrupted by a large ledge which is sufficiently flat that it provides the opportunity for the prospective challenger to lie down and contemplate the sky above. The remainder of the route also comprises the major part of the climb that gives it its grade, punching up a slightly overhanging arete and ending to the left on a mostly vertical face.
The climb is powerful, technical, and most of all, sustained, requiring significant power endurance to see through to the anchors. The moves are varied, with some stellar sequences, making for an overall fantastic climb.
