Intermodulation distortion is the reason why.
In this video, I briefly go over what intermodulation distortion is, why it can make something sound awful, and some other little tidbits.
Nothing fancy, but likely helpful to some who can't figure out why their awesome harmonized guitar parts sound so crappy.
