A Thanksgiving Weekend of Heart & Small-Town Christmas Magic

This Thanksgiving week gave us a little bit of everything — time with family, a behind-the-scenes look at a wildlife rescue doing incredible work, and a small town that showed up in a big way for Christmas.

We spent Wednesday with our daughter Sarah at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue just outside Charlotte, North Carolina. We met the founder, watched volunteers at work, saw a goose being x-rayed, and witnessed firsthand how much care goes into helping injured and abandoned animals. It was one of those experiences that stays with you.

The next day, we gathered around the table for Thanksgiving. Then on Sunday, we headed to Forest City, NC — a town we’ve visited before, but never during their Christmas parade and holiday light display. From the parade down Main Street to storefronts glowing under thousands of lights, it felt like stepping into a Christmas postcard.
